Massive full-service white sands beach

Sunset @ Hapuna

Location:

8 miles north of Waikoloa Beach. Turn west off the Queen K Highway at Hapuna Beach Road. Drive to the parking area west of the highway. The beach is found directly down the hill.

Description:

Hapuna is an expansive beach and bay. The beach is a short walk down the hill from the parking area. Boogie boarding can be great here (along with crowds) depending on the swell.

The beach is long and deep, so there is a lot of room to spread out. This beach is excellent for setting up chairs/umbrellas and soaking up the sun. The hill between the beach and the parking lot has large trees, and as a state park, it is a full-service beach.

If you want to enjoy a moderate hike, there is a trail leading along the shoreline north from Hapuna all the way to Mauna Kea Beach.

Precautions:

The sun is powerful here at midday. Aside from the risk of a mega sunburn, the waves here can sometimes be mighty. Know your limits and keep an eye on your little ones. There are also rocks in a few areas at the shoreline.

Amenities:

Freshwater showers, bathrooms, picnic areas, and accessible parking.
