I’ll catch you up sooner rather than later

There has been so much that has happened over the past day. I am back logged with this blog. But here are just some of the things I want to write about:

  • Finding my teacher style/voice
  • Interactive Read-alouds
  • My co-teacher
  • My CTR team
  • praising students vs. expectations
  • Advice CTR alumni have given me
  • Deltas and pluses from the Open House

Tomorrow is the first day of school. I am nervous and reviewing my books for the read aloud. I will go to school early tomorrow just to make sure I have everything. I really feel like tomorrow will be a great day! I will come back with things I could have worked on, but I am feeling very good about the first day. I hope my students are excited and ready for the first day of grade school. I don’t even remember how I felt on my first day of first grade. I was probably nervous, and didn’t want my mom to leave. It will be my job tomorrow to make sure the students are comfortable when entering our class. I might suggest playing some soft music. Our class smells amazing. We have put vanilla air freshners in and it makes our class smell home-y and sort of like Christmas. Our room is decked out in Indiana red (indiana is our classroom them, since we are a college predatory school, every class is named after the school their lead teacher went to). I want to be firm but very warm to the students. I am nervous that Mr. Lopez will reprimand me for being too nice, because he is very orderly and strict. I don’t want to deal with temper tantrums at the door of my classroom, with parent watching. Anyway, I know exactly what I’m doing. I will be standing at the door, greeting the students giving them a handshake and eye contact. I won’t allow them to enter until this is done. This is how we will great each other everyday. Then I will tell them about the procedure of how we unpack our things, settle our things into the cubbies and sit down and have a seat. I will first show them the cubbies then shake their hands at the door. After they will enter the classroom, Mr. Lopez will greet them and help them get started on the coloring and math activity as we wait for breakfast.
