I see the Nike point, but I don’t think it matters unless he wins a title, regardless of city. I liken this to Dirk’s trek to 2011, screwed along the way by some fluky things (the Pau-to-LA fleece of a trade, 2006 Finals w/conspicuous officiating, etc) which cause media to paint his team as having a “dark cloud” similar to OKC right now. If the pendulum swings the other way next year, people will be saying “KD always had it in him! Why did we even question him leaving?” Just how it works. Ridiculously loaded conference, sure, but LeBron gets to travel lightly through the East every year, only to look outmatched in the early goings of the Finals. You can only “hide” yourself in a conference for so long, as the Cavs are being shown right now. He would be crazy to think Boston/Miami/whoever brings him a better chance at a ring than the core that almost knocked out only one of the greatest teams ever. He will know this, and he will be back. Rooting for KD.
