Real Talk — Changing the Way Young People Discover and Choose Careers (Media Kit)

The Learning Partnership, the national non-profit that’s been bringing you Take Our Kids to Work Day for 21 years, has teamed up with Tiny Hearts Studios on an exciting new project, Real Talk. It is our latest and most ambitious attempt to advance public education in Canada.

We know Medium often plays host to launch announcements, so we decided to include our entire media kit here. Thanks for taking the time to learn about Real Talk, and we’d love to hear your thoughts (send emails to Project Lead, Ian Hartlen at [email protected]).

Thank you,

The Learning Partnership and Tiny Hearts teams at www.thelearningpartnership.ca and www.tinyhearts.com

It’s Time to Get Real About Careers

Deciding what to do after high school isn't easy. It requires making tough choices, opening some doors and closing others. Post-secondary education is no longer a direct path to a job, nor is it the only path to success.

Which is why it’s time to get real. High school students need relevant and timely advice from people who have “been there, done that.”

Say hello to Real Talk.

Real Talk is a mobile and web app that crowdsources the best advice, tips and resources from young people who have just transitioned from school to work. It wouldn't have been possible without the 500+(and growing!) individuals who gave us honest and unfiltered stories about their journeys after high school.

Real Talk started back in 2014 when The Learning Partnership went across Canada and talked to students about how they made choices about life after high school. What they told us shouldn't come as a surprise — it was their parents, classmates, peers and personal networks that most influenced the way they viewed their post-secondary options.

But what if students could expand their networks? We believed the best advice on today’s challenging path from school to work would come from those on the front lines, telling things like they are. We set out to find new grads and young workers who felt the same, and with that, Real Talk was born.

Real People. Real Career Advice.

Choosing your career direction isn't just about what you’re planning to do in ten years, it’s about what you’re going to do tomorrow. That’s why every Real Talk profile includes a list of resources curated by the authors themselves. You can bookmark, like, and share the careers that interest you, while building a digital “to-do list” of resources to help plan life after high school. And if that wasn't enough, our friends at Workopolis sourced labour market data and relevant job postings so you can check out real-time opportunities in any field that catches your eye.

We've got interviews with:

▸ Drake’s Full-Time Barber

▸ Professional YouTuber

▸ Bicycle Stunt Acrobat

▸ Broadcaster on SportsNet

▸ Lead Aquarist at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada

▸ and more!

Whether you’re confused about what to do with your life or you’re set on a particular path, Real Talk will change the way you look at the world of work.
