How to decorate your apartment without entering IKEA: Everything you need to know
- IKEA in Israel is a nightmare. If you are somehow still determined to go, at least order online (they now offer shipping through Dror4U.)
- If you need essentials in a pinch, the biggest selection is Home Center, Max Stock, or ACE (which is also open on Shabbat). Good for all the random “stuff” like hangers or hooks for the wall, but if you want nicer (and more $$), go to H&M Home or Zara Home.
- Hertzl does not have cheap furniture. If your primary goal is saving money, do not go to Hertzl. Central station area is much cheaper (specific spots below). Also, tons of people sell their old furniture in the Secret Tel Aviv Facebook group (generally better stuff and easier to buy than on Yad2 etc.)
- While Israel doesn’t have an online shopping culture like the US, there are a handful of eCommerce brands that even often free delivery within TLV most of the time, Keren Denis and Rico HOME are good for general home decor and accessories while Badim is amazing for rugs and Take a Nap is said to have great bedding.
Best places for affordable yet Pinterest-worthy furniture:
- For chairs (and tons of other stuff), United Seats / Pick Up
Tons of special/unique pieces for outdoor furniture, tables, and especiallychairs at a good price. You need to go upstairs to find the outlet (it’s not in the same store as the main entrance). There’s also a lot of furniture stores in the surrounding area for decor (like wall art, plant holders, etc.) you can find some good deals.
2. For boho everything (and tons of curtains), Marco Kairy
On Nachalat Binyamin, AMAZING AMAZING stuff. Great for seat cushions, curtains, decorative items, and handles for drawers etc. Very cheap and good return policy.
3. For couches: Levinsky 88
We got a custom-made loveseat (you can pick the legs and fabric and everything) with delivery for 1500 — very good quality. Next door to here (walking towards Central Station) are many other good furniture stores for living room stuff, wander in and you’ll find tons.
4. For houseplants: Ha Shomron Street
Amazing, super cheap plant store that is HUGE — it’s the same price as outside of TLV at the megastore in Hod Hasharon. The guy there is very nice.
5. For TV consoles and coffee tables: Golan Rehitim
You can get a nice TV console for about 1000 or find deals for discounted items around 500/700
