The Understanding Conversation

There is a lot going on within the world, not that there hasn’t always been an eventful day in our lives. Here is something that I’ve recently connected. Last night I watched Ender’s Game and loved it, now one of my favorite movies. Also more importantly, I am reading the book Daring Greatly. So here’s the connection I have found.

In Ender’s Game the first thing I saw was a quote that read

“In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him...” — Orson Scott Card

Then this morning I read an excerpt from The Velveteen Rabbit, in Daring Greatly, with a quote that read

“…because once you are Real; you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” — Margery Williams

Wow, do you seen what I see!?!?! We’ve got to do something about our state of peace, we’ve got to start understating one another, the community of humanity depends on it. If you need some ideas on how you can start here’s a great Ted Talk that recommends taking someone who you often disagree with, fundamentally, politically, economically, and/or morally, to lunch — check it out: Take “the Other” to lunch.

Let the community know what you think, I am genuinely interested in having a conversation about this.
