More frequently, misogyny relies on a grey space of deniability. “I was just giving you a compliment” or “I was being nice” aren’t good answers. Neither is “yea, but ISIS is really important!” Face the question and the problem. We don’t want weird, backhanded compliments about our bodies and we’re sick of being pushed off as hyper-sensitive. Men don’t want to stand up and own this — let’s force them to take another look. Let’s say it’s fine if we don’t get their attention and mean it. If we take away the game, maybe we’ll get the recognition that we deserve.
