Naming Chickens

A “real” farmer would likely scoff at the thought of giving names to your hens. In fact, Joel Salatin himself laughed when I mentioned “Scraggles” while framing a nutrition question for him at this summer’s PID (one of the highlights of my life). He got a real kick out of “people naming chickens.”

It would be silly to keep track of each individual bird in even our small flock. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Though a large part of why we keep layers is how much we love the personality of the chickens themselves, and when we have a little buddy that has an appearance and personality that sticks out…
