How I Talk To White People About Racism

For those Biblical-minded individuals, you can turn the “in, not of, the world” verses to this concept. Those of us who are white, live “in a world” with people of color. However, we are not “of the world” of color. As such, our comprehension of racism — especially in America — lacks empathy. And no matter how sympathetic we may be, we will always fail to understand the nuances of racism to their fullest. This does not excuse us from responsibility to understand the struggles people of color face. Rather, this fact means we must strive even harder to put aside ill-reasoned opinions and accept the reality communicated to us by those “in the world” of color.
