THE LILY AND THE BEE
I am a shy, budding mountain lily
And you are a golden honey bee
Quietly I watched you everyday
My home you’ve marked your territory…
You flit and buzz not so subtly
Kissing my full bloomed neighbors in glee
Fearful, I wondered what it might be
That they wilt and wither sadly
When the sun sets and you fly away.
I prayed then that you won’t notice
When I fully bloom, display my face
But just when I was partially unfurled
In my ear I heard your buzzing voice
And suddenly you were right there
Coaching my petals to spread wider
When I did, I felt a pleasant tickle
As you started to flick and suckle
Helpless, I bloomed amidst the pleasure.
You nipped, you licked, you bit, you sipped
Into my core your sucker dipped
You nudged the jar of nectar stored
The crystal broke, the contents poured
Lapping, sucking, you drunk it dry
Trembling, you took me on a ride
A cyclone broke rocking the boughs
I sailed the storm in ecstasy
Until you burped in satiety.
Before you left, I heard you whisper
Said, the setting sun I must not fear
For though I would wilt and wither
I won’t die, my kind won’t disappear
Clones of me would soon sprout on Earth
More lovely blossoms will be birthed
And this gloomy place that I called home
Will be a garden in full bloom
Where butterflies and bees will love to roam.
