My Thoughts on The New Medium Logo

When a company does a rebrand, in this case Medium, there has to be something that is off from the previous one. I’m a self taught freelance graphic designer and I’ve been doing logo design for 3,5 years now and here’s my thoughts on the new Medium logo.
Pros:
- It’s simple and easy to recognize, especially the monogram.
- The logo has that newspaper feel in it, which is good since Medium is a good quality media platform, so the approach is on point.
- It’s in black and white, c’mon, that makes it even cooler!
- There is this habit that I always do as a logo designer, always present my works to the client in black and white, because it’s just our nature that we’d be more enthused when we see a logo in black and white.
Cons:
- I know I said the approach on the logo is on point, especially the monogram. But I think the previous logo was more on point.
- The previous monogram/icon was more unique to me personally, even from afar, I would still notice the logo.
- Also the previous logo is picturing the name ‘Medium’ better, with that kind of 3d approach in it.
- Also the previous logo is more memorable since it was unique and all.

See that? The ‘M’ Monogram is a lot more unique than new one. I still remember the first moment when I saw the logo I was like, that’s cool! And I didn’t have to keep searching it on the Internet to know what’s the name of that green ‘M’ icon. But the new one is not bad though, in fact it’s really good, but I prefer the previous one.
