The Strypes

Glasgow Garage, 18/2/14

With the Dr. Feelgood like sound and the sharp attire, The Strypes blew me away. For being such a young age they were full of energy and passion towards music. Having sold out The Garage and knowing the gigs were a bit rowdy made it all more exciting. Supporting them were The Shimmer Band, bringing a psychedelic feel to the night; i fairly enjoyed that.

Around 8:30, The Strypes swaggered on stage and out came their punchy single “What A Shame.” Crowds of teenagers, grown men and women were chanting the words and bouncing around like idiots; at this point being right at the barrier wasn't the brightest of ideas. The boys went through the entire album and newest EP filling in spaces with covers like I'm A Hog For You, Baby and Got Love If You Want It. All through the set there was not one dull moment, particularly towards the end as the favorite “Blue Collar Jane” was sung and many mosh pits formed. Tunes that stuck out for me were Hard To Say No, Angel Eyes and Mystery Man. They finished the gig with a classic cover of “Louie Louie.” Afterwards, I managed to get the set list and meet the band.

Overall I think it was a fantastic and I would recommend seeing them. I could definitely say I “reeked of sweat and teenage innocence” that night and i'm pretty sure a lot of people did too.
