Living life vs. making a difference

When I graduated all I wanted was to start a business that could support a lifestyle of experiences, freedom and financial freedom. I wanted happiness. And I thought happiness was living the good life; sipping fresh juices on the beach in Bali, traveling through South America and work when I felt like it. My dream came true. But I didn’t find myself particularly happier after the rush of likes and jealous comments on Facebook fated.

Most of us want to feel happy. And in the pursuit, we go travel, buy all inclusive, order fancy takeaway and upload it to Instagram so everyone can see that we have a good life. The pattern repeats, making friends, followers and ultimately the whole world want the same thing (Dan Bilzerian as an extreme example).

But what is long-lasting happiness?

The closest that I’ve ever come is thinking about -, living for — and working on something that could make a difference for more than yourself and your closest circle of friends and family.

For me, it’s promoting cross-border business and ultimately global growth through better communication. Growing 24Slides is just a side-effect of that.

Imagine a world where having a purpose in life was considered the road to happiness rather than living the good life. Power ≠ money. Innovation would explode. Conversations would be so much more interesting, online and offline.

I’m still learning about this everyday. But I’m excited about it, and I feel like it’s important to share.
