Unfriend them?

I think the idea to unfriend someone on Facebook because they clash with our worldview, reality, or even sanity is one of the most important decisions we can make on Facebook. I was going to unfriend this person and several others posting about Kaepernick and other racist crap.

But — I didn’t.

It’s painful, but I need to see where these people are coming from. If I only see the posts that resonate with what I would consider helpful ways to improve society, I’m never going to understand how to connect with those across the ideological and sanity spectrum.

But — I’m privileged.

If I choose to keep someone as a friend on Facebook, it’s not going to cut me like it would cut you, not even close. Besides, you only have to walk outside, turn on the tv, or surf the web in general to feel the impact of the crap on Facebook. As such, my unfriend advice only applies to cis-white males. We need to see what a large portion of our group is doing to create and maintain disharmony in the world.

Peace.
