The Greatest Female Singers

I’ve had this thought running through my mind the last couple of days. Male singers get so much recognition. Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, John Lennon — all of them well know worldwide and considered Rock Gods. Lately I’ve been thinking that there are some great female singers as well. Maybe it’s time to give them some recognition. So, I started writing down some names. I concentrated on female singers of my era. Judy Garland popped into my mind but she was well before my time. I wanted to concentrate on female singers from my lifetime. I’ve come up with ten that I believe are the best. With each name I’ll explain my rationale. I should also say, this is not a best to worst list. These are just the ten best female singers I could think of. And here we go:

1. Pat Benatar
I probably thought of her first because I believe, in terms of singing classic rock music, she is the best.

2. Stevie Nicks
Great voice and songwriter.

3. Karen Carpenter
There is a part of me that must admit I do like some of The Carpenters music. It’s all because of Karen’s ethereal voice. It was a tragedy what happened to her — she was a fantastic singer.

4. Gloria Estefan
Like most young men in the 1980s, I had a crush on Gloria. She started out with this different Latin fusion kind of music with The Miami Sound Machine — but over time — she developed into a huge star on her own. I believe this is because of her great voice and the fact that she was capable of writing outstanding songs.

5. Roberta Flack
There are two African American women that owned the 1970s. Roberta Flack was one of them. The other was……

6. Chaka Khan
Love her. Her singing was incredible with Rufus, and on her own.

7. Linda Ronstadt
Great singer. A huge star in the 1970s and early 80s.

8. Christina Aguilera
I am in no way a fan of Christina’s music. However, she does have a great voice.

9. Barbra Streisand.
I’m not really too much of a fan of Streisand’s music either. However, there is no doubt, her singing is magnificent.

10. Alanis Morissette
Alanis was thee hot ticket in the mid to late 1990s. She’s capable of writing great songs. In terms of her vocal abilities, she shines in “Thank U” and “Uninvited”.

And there you have it. The ten greatest female singers. I’m sure there will be other opinions and I certainly welcome them…..
