McGregor has no way of winning. As an ESPN analyst said — even if McGregor worked his way up in boxing and years from now, establishes himself as the BEST boxer EVER …. he would still LOSE this fight. People don’t understand boxing. If he was fighting Gatti or Ward in one of their type of brawls — OK. Has a decent shot. Those type of boxing matches are few and far between.

Instead, he’s fighting the Polar Opposite of that, and doesn’t even have boxing trainers. He’s not as fast and powerful as one thinks due to observing him in the octagon, but he definitely has natural boxing skill and learned as a Kid. But it’s his First Real Boxing Match. You make mistakes. Especially when you haven’t been fighting in the amateur league leading up to it, nor have boxing trainers. Mayweather thrives on them, which frustrates people. It’s what Mayweather lines up with the Best, even if he was almost 50, instead of just turning 40.

The only thing McGregor has going for him is taking a punch & youth (lasting longer than your average bear in his position), and his unorthodox style that he’s bringing to the table, along with being south paw to help mix things up more. He has a chance to get a good shot or two with Mayweather off the bench after 2 years… but remember: Mayweather’s fought guys bigger and stronger than him, with more punching power than McGregor. He’s also faced several southpaws and unorthodox guys (in the realm of boxing at least), so he’s very adaptable.

It’d be a lot better if McGregor trained with boxers for 2 years in private fights, and fought a known but non-champion brawler (like a Gatti). THAT would be worth saying “There’s a chance actually worth considering that he could truly win.”
