Momentum — Go So Fast You’re Breaking Things

What’s the component that makes a startup or project great? Momentum.

Getting it started is one thing but growing quickly and sustaining momentum is another.

Just moving forward is crucial.

Because if you’re going in the wrong direction then it’s a waste of time.

This resonates with the famous quote from Martin Luther King Jr “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

You could say our momentum has accelerated exponentially since when we started running back in 2015.

It’s literally exploded out of nowhere.

From running a handful of events last year to almost 40 this year is quite a leap!

Not to mention the insane distances we’ve taken on as opposed to the 21–42km that were undertaken last year.

Where did all this momentum come from? We got really curious with running and the fact we’re running for charity has really pushed our bodies to run absurd races to get our fundraising goals.

But the thing is we actually enjoy these long-distance races. We’d much rather run an ultra over the conventional 42km marathon.

When the people we look up to are running 100km+ endurance events then it flicks a switch in our heads to be on that level.

After running the River Run 100km Ultra

Currently, we’ve done 27 events in 8 months, not bad considering we initially had 14 planned in January…

But to us, we want to push ourselves and see what our bodies are capable of. So, more the merrier!

And when our friends in running community tell us about upcoming events that we had no idea existed, we always seem to sign up haha.

When you’re gaining this much momentum, you will get exposure.

That being said, we’ve been lucky enough to have multiple radio interviews, newspaper articles, social media shoutouts and blog posts written about us!

And can’t forget about our sponsors and partners who have joined us on this journey and for the years to come.

With this much momentum, it’s obvious to us to keep it going for next year and onwards.

You probably already know that we’re going to Mt Everest to run the world’s highest ultramarathon and also summit to Island Peak (20,305ft) but we’ve got many other big races lined up.

We haven’t booked them yet but once we do, you’ll find out.

Speaking of events, we’re actually in the works of organising our first 10km fun run.

This will be held on the Gold Coast early December and once it’s approved then we will let you know about the event and how you can run the first ever Wounded Pelicans race!

Our next event is the Bridge to Brisbane 10km charity run this Sunday. A very small distance compared to the other crazy runs we’ve recently done but it’ll be a nice little lead up run to the 24 hour treadmill challenge next Saturday to Sunday.

Keep reading below to know more about this event!

Let us know if you’ll be at Bridge to Brisbane!

Enjoy :)

24 Hour Treadmill Challenge:

It’s official, we are running a 24hour treadmill challenge in Justin’s Park, Burleigh on Sept 3–4 from 7am-7am… It’s endurance #29 for 2016 and if you’re wondering why we’re doing this… it’s for 2 reasons. For the physical challenge to see how far we can run in 24 hours and to raise the remaining $6.6k of our $20k fundraiser for cancer research & awareness.

Most appreciated if anyone can come down and support us and spread the word. It’ll be a fun day as we have 8 or 9 marquees around us to cater for everyone as well as radio broadcasting (and hopefully tv too). If you know of any sporting icons/ athletes that’d be keen to run with us for a bit on the spare treadys, let them know about this event!

Follow The Wounded Pelicans’ Journey:

Remember to subscribe and follow us on social media and refer your friends & family. We are trying to grow our following to be as big as possible for what we are doing for cancer awareness and our vision for 2017. It would also mean a lot if you can donate any small amounts to our $20,000 fundraiser as we still have a long way to go… all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
