I see what you’re saying, but I understand why one day at a time is good advice for some people, too. A lot of people can work themselves into a lot of anxiety trying to deal with a whole future full of things that may never happen and get overwhelmed. For me it got easier over time, so worrying about oh, say, not being able to toast with champagne at my wedding some day is not going to help. For me keeping an eye on what I need to do next helps a lot, because the things I need to do today to keep moving towards my goals are usually manageable.

Not everyone responds the same way, though, so absolutely go with whatever works for you.
