Fists aloft, he prays to football’s Gods:

On glory’s cusp, the dream’s the same,

back before couture, or expensive-but-poor haircuts,

back in that playground, when brand new shoes were scuffed,

then as now, he believes,

and swears by the heart and the stars on his sleeve.
