Summarising The Brief

Summary

The project that I have chosen to do for my website is the Pod Bay Doors. The Pod Bay Doors is a local three piece rock band that requires a website to help promote its music.

Client Requirements and Goals

The client wants a different website something that is fun for people to interact with. The client stated that the website must contain a bio about the band, contact details, photos of the band, ways to listen to the bands songs, upcoming shows and integrating social media into the design of the website.

The goals of the project are to create a website that is a full screen website and integrate many different options of social media. Creating this will make it easier to interact with fans.

Target Audiences

This project is targeted at audiences who have an interest in music and enjoy the specific style of music that is being played by this band.

The characteristics of this audience is generally to have as less information as possible on the pages. The audience want the pages to stand out and be able to easily access music by the band.

Technical Requirements

The specific requirements that will be incorporated in this website are that this will be custom build solution. This means there can be more freedom when writing any code in your website.

I will be using JavaScript for playing any audio on the website. I will be using HTML for allowing images to be embedded on the website.

CSS will be also used to style the website adding any appropriate colours and fonts to the website.

Market Research

Other websites that I have looked at to gain design inspiration include the Zac Brown Band which uses very good integration with social media on its website. Another nice design for a website that I looked at was the Roskilde Festival, this website is well set out and has nice backgrounds.

Proposal

My website is to be a full screen website with the menu up the top, a large image as the background. I would want the home page to play the bands music.

Evaluating Social Media Options

Some of the pros and cons of integrating social media sites into a website can include increased sales, increased traffic to your website, opportunity for feedback from others and easier to reach out to other people.

The cons of integrating social media sites into a website can include risk of inappropriate posts put on the social media which then goes onto there website. Another con can include negative feedback from people on social media and greater potential of hacking from social media.

This website contains different social media options including Instagram and Twitter appropriately laid out across the page.

This website is a tennis website that shows the players social media accounts and how often they have posted on social media.

Ways to have successful social media integration is to include as many different social media options as possible. Such as Facebook and Twitter for reaching out to fans, Instagram for using photos, Soundcloud for streaming music.

The sites that I will use for social media on my website will be Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandsintown.

Design Sketches

Home Page Design

I wanted to design the home page so there was a large image of the band making the band stand out from other bands. I wanted to create a home page so that the bands music is easily accessible for people to see on the side of the page along with the bands twitter feed.

Music Page

For the music page I wanted all the bands albums or songs available to be shown on this page. Also any videos of the band are on this page.

Photos Page

For the photos page I wanted photos of the band available in albums for fans of the band to easily access once opening the albums. Some of the photos may not be available on the bands Instagram page.

Tours Page

In this page I wanted to have the upcoming tour dates for the band and some songs from the bands Soundcloud page to access on the page.

Contact/Social Media Page

I'm still undecided on whether to call this a contact or a social media page. On this page it will have the available contacts for the band and details of all the bands social media feeds.
