Self Driving Cars Can’t Get Here Fast Enough for the Job Market

At least Mr. Siegel tried to point to new potential job areas. Most taking his position just vaguely point at history and say no one can guess what the new jobs will be — handily excusing them from needing to suggest at least a few broad categories.

But if a service isn’t already being provided in taxis and limos and buses, it seems unlikely that we’ll see significant amounts of such services being provided in automated cars. [Prostitution is a possible exception. Probably not the kind of jobs you had in mind.]

Car plus coffee or food does seem likely — but rarely with human cooks or servers on board. There’d be some new jobs restocking the cars + vending machine — but with no significant increase in demand for food that is unlikely to be a net gain of jobs to make up for other lost jobs.
