For Love, For Work, For Money
So you have five years of career under your belt, 20 thousand pounds saved in the bank and a nice office at work, with great colleagues. Do you quit and become a YouTuber?
Because that is exactly what I’ve done.
At the age of twenty-five, after much deliberation and two years planning, I resigned from the office and have begun my life’s work. The question everyone around me asks is why? Why would you be so bold, so brash and possibly so stupid.
My answer is simple, I believe I have the blueprint to an incredible YouTube channel, I believe I have the skills and personality to execute this blueprint and for the first time, I believe I will be doing something I truly love. I also love making people laugh and hope someday soon I will be able to monetise the laughs, earning a living from something I enjoy doing.
Statistically, the odds are stacked against me, 96.5% of YouTubers live below the poverty line, YouTubers earn only £3 per 1000 views, requiring an incredible amount of views to be successful and naturally the fall off rate for new YouTubers is quick and all too common.
Sustainable success on YouTube is a little like becoming a unicorn company, everyone wants the billion-dollar valuation, but very few companies can actually get there (less than 1% of companies actually). Everyone on YouTube wants the subscribers, the attention and the riches that come with it, but very few have the mindset, the creativity, the focus to actually deliver.
However, due to my unique skillset, channel uniqueness and confidence I give myself around a 33% chance of success. Considered “ridiculous” and “stupid odds” by certain family members.
Have I fucked my life up? Will I ever be employed again if I fail? Only time, the market and a little bit of luck will tell.
Anyhow I’ll give it everything I’ve got.
