It’s Never Too Late To Get Started

It is never too late to get started.

I think a common misconception in the world of music is that if you don’t break, if you don’t pop before you’re a certain age, you’re done.

That is complete crap.

There’s no age limit on making music. There is no age limit on being an artist. There’s no age limit on when you can start your career as a musician. Whether you’re a songwriter, a sideman, or you want to be a lead singer, it doesn’t matter. There is no timeline or time limit on when you can do these things.

There are always going to be people in your age bracket who are making music, who are creating art, and those are generally going to be the people that you connect with. So don’t be afraid to take the first step.

And I say that to myself more than anybody else.

I mean this, this one is for me before it’s for anybody else. I’m not even going to try to hide the fact that this is selfish in nature. I have decided to up my game of making original music substantially this year, and I’m 33 about to be 34 years old.

Everybody wants to be Bieber or Tiger or Lebron. They want to be the biggest one at the top of the pile. The fact of the matter is, just because you’re not Tiger doesn’t mean you can’t make a ton of money every year playing golf.

There is enough for everybody out there, so don’t be afraid to get started wherever you are. Use what you have, use what you know, and just make what you can.

That’s step one.

A great example that comes to mind is the perception of the tech CEO. The average person seems to think that in Silicon Valley you start at 22, just like in music. You gotta be Zuckerberg with Facebook or Travis with Uber, but the average Silicon Valley CEO doesn’t found their company until they’re 42 years old.

Case and point. There is no timeline. The options are limitless.

There’s no better time than now to get after it, to start making music, to make as much music as you can, and to finally build a career doing the thing that you love to do.
