Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau swiped at President Donald Trump’s immigration order Saturday, tweeting that Canada welcomes those who are fleeing war “regardless of your faith.”
“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada” Trudeau tweeted in French and English.
He then tweeted a photo of himself welcoming a Syrian refugee child with the hashtag #WelcomeToCanada.
Trump on Friday signed the executive order that suspends Syrian refugees’ entry to the U.S. and imposes a visa ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, also giving Christians priority admittance to the United States among refugees.
Canada has resettled more than 39,000 Syrian refugees as of Jan. 2, according to the Canadian government website.
