The Myth of Bootcamp “Transparency”

Jon, I commend you for coming out in the open and talking about this important issue. It’s obviously important for potential students to have credible information about a program they are thinking of spending valuable time and money at. You bring up a really good point that there isn’t a standardized method of assessing bootcamp grad success. However, why not build from the standard way of measuring success that colleges use? I’ve gathered that colleges collect data from each month after graduation to find 2 things — percentage of students with a job in their chosen field, and the amount of time it takes for a large percentage of students to get there. If Dev Bootcamp were to stick with a standard that accredited universities use, then it would give even more credibility to the program. Other programs that refuse to release their methods or use non-standardized methods would come under higher scrutiny. In either case, I don’t think that anecdotal evidence is enough for people to make such a life-changing decision.
