Look, the main reason why blacks have more negative encounters with the police is because of the black crime rate. In Chicago, for instance, blacks comprise 35% of the population but commit 75% of all homicides. Whites comprise 28% of the city’s population and commit 4% of all homicides. Similar disparities apply in all categories of violent crime. As a general rule police go where the crime is and sadly, in America’s big cities that means black neighborhoods.

To be clear, I’m not citing these statistics in an attempt to excuse police misconduct, which is far from uncommon in Chicago. I’m merely pointing out why, in reality, it’s more likely to occur with black Americans.
