The Cheapest.

It really doesn’t pay to be cheap.

We had a prospect call up recently and ask, “What’s The Cheapest price that you can do for SEO & All Of My Digital Marketing?” After my sales guy shared the story with me, I started to reflect on the word cheap. Here’s what comes to mind:

- Cheap is the feeling that you just couldn’t go the extra mile to make it great.
— Cheap is the word you use to describe someone who loves sub-par.
— Cheap is what you get when you go on the cheap.
— Cheap implies that you just don’t care.
— Cheap invokes a feeling of blah.
— Cheap makes me ask, Why would you even bother?

Now, I can understand going cheap on napkins for a kids birthday party. I can understand going cheap on a hotel room if you’re just looking to grab some zzz’s and get back on the road. I can understand going cheap on a disposable product that you only intend to use once. Subsequently, here are just some of the things that I would NEVER go cheap on:

- Jewelry for my wife. (Learned that lesson.)
— Coffee. Life is just too damned short.
— Cars. I like cars, a LOT.
— Vodka. Yeah, one headache too many.
— Underwear. Just because. — Fishing reels. Yeah, that’s pretty important to me.
— Computers. You won’t find an E-Machine or HP computer anywhere near my home or office.
— Pens. I HATE cheap pens.
— Marketing for my businesses.

When it comes to your business and your digital presence where EVERYONE is out looking for your business, why would you go cheap? Cheap doesn’t get it done. Cheap doesn’t convert to dollars. Cheap doesn’t turn a website visitor into a customer. Cheap won’t get you found, talked about, shared or cared about.

Like my dad used to always say to me: It doesn’t pay to be cheap. Ever.
