I couldn’t even make it through this article. The politics of exclusion and purity test are exactly why Trump was able to carve out swaths of voters. Now the call by the author to double down in hopes of forcing people to get off a fence and support ideas and policies without any wiggle room, developed and carved out by whom? It is exactly the extremist view that will cause voters to either stay home each November or move to third party candidates, as may have happened in the last two election cycles. To many “moderates” who this author has just disdain for, the left and right wing agenda is beyond the pale, and other than the highly visible shouting, rioting and discourse of volume over thoughtful debate, the demographics show that the party politics are losing ground to the independent thought of the “moderates”. No big rallies, no rioting, just pulling the lever (or not) in the voting booth. The pendulum always slows down and then reverses on the edges and eventually and inevitably settles in the middle.
