Eat Shit Consistently, And You’ll Win At Some Point
I’ve been getting into Gary Vaynerchuk’s content a lot lately.
Allow me to channel my inner Gary Vee right now.
EAT SHIT CONSISTENTLY AND YOU’LL WIN AT SOME POINT.
Say it again with me.
Eat shit consistently, and you’ll win at some point.
I got started on Medium exactly one year ago, and made a pact with myself to publish here consistently and pay no attention to the metrics.
Just post. Every day. And see what happens.
(There was absolutely no need for three periods there ^)
I knew I’d have to eat shit for a couple months before I saw any real results, but to be honest I just wanted to put 30 minutes in every day as a sort of challenge to myself.
I’d blogged before, but I’d never written every single day, so it was thrilling.
And I love challenges.
Fast forward to today and I have 12.6K followers, 5.7K followers with this publication, and a couple thousand email subscribers.
But wait, there’s more.
While followers are fantastic, I wouldn’t exactly consider it “winning” just yet. As many of you may know, I posted my first locked story a couple days ago.
I didn’t know what to expect from this, but I knew I’d do relatively well considering I have more than 10K followers.
Here’s my estimated earnings after Week 1:
I was elated to see the numbers — especially given the fact that I’m trying to break free from freelancing once and for all.
I put a lot of effort into my locked posts, mind you, and I really think I bring a lot of value to the people who clap me up.
So where are we at now? What’s the point of all this?
The point is you literally never know what’s going to happen. Medium switched everything up overnight with the Partner Program. It was an absolute game-changer.
It made my 12.6K followers about 40 times more valuable (ya’ll were already valuable to me) because now I could make a direct income from my words.
A lot of people get caught up in the immediate metrics of things and quit a couple weeks in when things aren’t working.
How about you not even touch the “stats” button?
In case you didn’t know, I haven’t been writing on Medium for the last month.medium.com
How about you diligently work hard at mastering a platform until something like the Medium Partner Program happens?
You’d never be in the position to reap the (unforseen) benefits without eating shit. And that’s why you just need to hop right in.
