Jennifer Smith, My dad, the Reverend Canon Donald R. Barton, was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1967 just before I turned 7 years old. We spent 3 years at a small church in Marysville Kansas. I was hit by a car when I was 7 or 8 and broke my right hip, right in front of my house. In 1970 we moved to Branson, Missouri where my Dad was the Rector of The Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church until his retirement from full-time ministry in 1992 . I was Honorable Mention All Conference in basketball twice, and I was my 1978 class Valedictorian. The girls in my high school nicknamed me “Hands Barton” which I did not learn of until I was in Law School in 1990 at the University of Missouri -Kansas City. I was on the Dean’s List 5 of 6 semesters. I was admitted to the Missouri Bar in October 1992. I have not practiced law for many years.
