Most People Never Feel Like It (The Power Of Starting Small)
Most days, I don’t want to write.
Most days, I don’t want to train.
Most days, I don’t want to grow.
And yet, I find myself doing all of these things — every single day, without fail.
How?
I’m not uniquely gifted or special.
(In fact, what school taught me was that I wasn’t smart, creative or good enough for anything. Thanks guys.)
I’ve simply created a system where it becomes impossible to not do these things.
So, how do I do it and how can you do the same exact thing?
That’s exactly what we’re going to cover today.
START SO SMALL, IT SEEMS INCONSEQUENTIAL
Start small.
I’m talking so small, it almost feels dumb to you.
What people don’t understand about The 1% Rule [LINK] is that it’s not about tiny, incremental growth.
(At least not all of it.)
It’s about what happens to incremental growth after you do it long enough, where it becomes exponential growth.
And so back to starting small.
Starting small allows you and I to get rid of the pressure, overwhelm and need for high levels of willpower in order to do something.
DO IT EVERY SINGLE DAY (CONSISTENCY OVER INTENSITY)
Every single day, I make it a non-negotiable to write 500 words.
(This takes about 15–20 minutes.)
Every single day, I make it a non-negotiable to do 50 push-ups.
(This takes about 2:00 minutes.)
Every single day, I make it a non-negotiable to connect with one potential client.
(This takes about 5 minutes.)
Every single day, I make it a non-negotiable to reach out to one podcast guest.
(This takes about 7 minutes.)
That’s it.
Now, here’s the key to making this work:
If you hit your target, you’re good…actually, you’re great.
Meaning, you will not beat yourself up later at all if that’s all you do.
You’ve won the day.
MOMENTUM IS CREATED BY STARTING SMALL
So, why does this work so well?
After 500 words, I’ve got the rust out — and often end up writing 1,500 to 6,000 words a day.
After 50 pushups, I’ve got some momentum — and end up doing 250–600 push-ups per day.
After 1 potential client reachout, I’ve got some clarity — and end up enrolling new clients for $7,500.
After 1 potential podcast reachout, I’ve got some energy — and end up filling my roster with rockstars.
This is magical, because it means I get to own the process and create momentum, all while building my confidence and clarity.
And you can do the same.
So, on this amazing day — I’ve got a simple question:
What is the simplest target (aligned with a greater goal) that you can do today?
Identify that one thing, and watch what happens.
This system isn’t sexy and it won’t sell out stadium ballrooms hopped up motivational caffeine.
But what it will do is much, much better:
It will produce results, which increase your momentum, clarity and belief.
And then one day you wake up, and you can’t believe what you’ve created.
