This is a great description of what we are doing very similarly.

Here’s one feature of ember-cli that you might not be aware of: You can tell ember-cli to put the configuration inside the javascript instead of serializing it in the HTML meta tag. When you are creating the EmberApp, specify:

storeConfigInMeta: false

With this, you may be able to eliminate parsing the generated index.html file altogether.
