Growth pain

Any start-up experiences growth pain while rapidly expanding its organization. So did RareJob, the company I founded in 2007. So does Tuitt, the company I co-founded in 2016.

The growth pain simply come from the increase of communication line.

If the number of people increased from x to 2x, the number of communication line between people was much more increased than the number of people.

The number of people increased: from x to 2x
The number of communication line increased: from x*(x-1)/2 to 2x*(2x-1)/2

For example, when the number of staff increased from 5 to 10, the number of communication line is increased from 10 to 45. While the number of people is increased at twice, the number of communication line is increased at more than 4 times.

No wonder we sometimes experienced internet connection trouble due to too many users to the router of our LAN after the office transfer. (Sorry students… )
And no wonder soon we need to have more systematic approach, such as Mtg, HR system, Data handling etc.

And, of course, I need to be careful to adjust the speed of organizational expansion, too.
