Train travel is not for everyone. But, personally I really enjoy it and what puts this author off simply doesn’t apply to me. Why do I like train travel? Let’s start with the non-frenetic pace. No, getting there as quickly as possible isn’t the point. Second, you get to see America in ways you will never see it from an interstate or out of a plane window. Third, you get to meet interesting people and the food is quite good. Fourth, unlike this author, I write all the time on trains and find it easy. No phones. No interruptions. Great views. If you are used to the posh life and all the creature comforts — it may not be for you. But it is travel from a by-gone era and you are missing something if you skip it.
