What’s your list?
I want to describe to you exactly what I want for my life.
- The Plan.
- Short-Term Goals.
- Moonshot Goals.
- The Lighthouse Goal.
- My Purpose.
Here’s The Plan.
My life is only planned out through August 1 of this year, so we’ll start there.
On May 13 is the second prom I will be attending in my life, and May 21 is the last prom I will attend as a student. On May 26 I will attend my last day of High School. On May 29, I will officially graduate. Wow.
On June 11 of this year I will get on a plane, stop in New York City, then stop in Hong Kong, before arriving in Thailand. While in Thailand I will be working in an orphanage, eye clinic, and helping teach Youth Ministry to Christians in the Lanna Theological Center alongside 7 others I have grown close to over the last year and a half. I’m also shooting my first feature film about the entire trip, which I’m crazy excited about. We’ll be in country for 9 days, then back through Hong Kong, NYC, and home to Frankfort, KY.
For the next 4–5 days I will sort through massive amounts of footage from Thailand to produce the rough cut of the story for my film. Then, I’ll drive to Nashville, Tennessee to spend about a week working with my good friend Josh Sudduth on composing the musical score for the film.
Somewhere around July 4, I will get on a plane to Los Angeles, California. I will get off that plane, and take an Uber to the Hollywood apartment I will be living in until next July. I will know no one. I will be alone. In a brand new place. I’m excited, and scared. Mostly excited.
On August 1, I will begin my first day of college at The Los Angeles Film School.
That’s all I know so far.
Here are my Short-Term Goals.
By the end of 2016, I want a press pass to take photos at a Lakers game. Unfortunately, I won’t have the chance to photograph Kobe.
I hope to get my film from Thailand into at least one film festival, and attend its premiere. That’d be very cool.
I would like to build a personal brand, and have a message that inspires people who give me their time and attention.
I want to use my name recognition and revenue to travel the world as a self-funded Missionary. I want more to know Jesus Christ, and I want to just go.
Here are my Moonshot Goals.
I want to help pioneer the shift in the film industry, whether that comes through a platform like YouTube or on a whole new platform like VR. I want to be at the forefront of the future.
I want to be a self-funded missionary, as I said. I’ve not seen many of these, but the opportunity is even greater in the modern world. It’s possible now. How, I’m not sure yet.
I want to have a studio for my work. A place where I have all the equipment and space and resources to create anything.
I want to work with major brands on the next kind of advertising. The kind where you actually appreciate the company taking a moment of your time to show you something you actually want to see.
I could keep going, but these are my core aspirations.
Here’s my Lighthouse Goal.
This is the one thing that actually matters to me. This is what my happiness in this world will come from.
I can’t wait to meet My Wife.
Marriage is like spending every day with your best friend, having a sleepover every night, AND you get to kiss them too.
I know, I know, we’ll fight a lot too. But we’ll fight harder with each other than anyone else, and we’ll still be madly in love with each other, despite our faults and the way we hurt one another… I’ve tasted that with someone before. There is no better feeling than knowing that love for another human. Especially when it’s mutual.
My Purpose.
I believe in the God of the Christian Bible, and I believe Jesus was the Christ who was prophesied about for centuries who died and then came back to life three days later. That Bible, says my duty in this world is to fear God and keep his commandments. It says I am to love my neighbor as myself. It says I am made so that the God of the Universe may be glorified through my existence. I want to proclaim that everywhere. That’s why I’ll travel, that’s why I’ll make movies. That’s my Purpose.
