Thank you for the feedback Sacha. I don’t think govts. will give up those taxes, but they WILL decline — if I don’t buy gas, then I don’t pay taxes on gas, which means the revenue won’t be generated. Which means the revenue will have to come from somewhere else. The cleanest, simplest way is to charge a per-mile tariff on EVs; that directly relates use of roadways to payment, and would be much easier to put in place now while their use is still relatively limited, in much the same way it was easy to get retail net metering in place for solar long before adoption spiked and prices dropped
