How Microsoft out performs Apple in everything

The year was 1975 and the world would never be the same. This was the year Microsoft Corporation was founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A year later a small company was founded in an suburban California garage named Apple.

These two companies have arguably been the most influential companies since they were founded. They have led the technology boom that has been rapidly spreading all over the world for the past forty years. Both companies have been able to adapt with the ever changing needs of the tech market and have been able to rapidly respond to the needs of the user.

While there is much debate as to which company is “better”, there is no arguing that Microsoft has had a bigger impact on the world at large. Microsoft has had a larger impact on the technology world than Apple through its ability to produce better software, constantly adapt and upgrade with the market, and being more focused on the user.

Microsoft Revolutionized the Personal Computer

Microsoft was the first major tech company to specialize in software. Microsoft found a way to mass produce software at a cheap price so that everyone could have it.

In the article, Apple or Microsoft, who changed the world?, Sean McMahon says, “Microsoft was the first to give the world a PC on every desk and in every home”.

Microsoft windows accounts for 91.5% of all computer OS

Microsoft cleared the way for other tech companies to be viable to the everyday person instead of just businesses. The popularity of Microsoft’s software is why it has been so dominating in the industry.

“Many software companies simply don’t have the resources to develop for two different systems, so they choose the one with the most users.”

Microsoft’s Windows operating system is the most commonly used operating system in the world and because of that it constantly attracts more users. With the majority of software programs being developed for PC’s(personal computers) there is are limited options where they can be used.

“There is also an almost endless supply of 100% free programs, some that run on Apple computers, but the majority of which run on Windows computers only.”

Microsoft has practically monopolized the software industry and is only getting stronger.

Microsoft vs. Apple in the Cloud

Microsoft and Apple both have been around for more than 40 years and both have had to adapt to the ever changing market or they would have been forgotten.

Microsoft’s Windows seems to be constantly upgrading every year while Apple’s OS X has never seen any major upgrades to its code.

With the cloud service becoming more common and widely used over the past decade, Microsoft and Apple have been trying to get ahead in this sector of the tech market with one company clearly ahead of the other.

Microsoft’s Cloud Services is miles ahead of any other competitor

Matt Wienberger, business insider writer, says,”Microsoft is better at cloud services than Apple. With apps like OneNote and OneDrive, you can have your files and notes anywhere at any time — not just on Apple devices”.

Microsoft has always competed with Apple in applications but now has also got a leg up on Apple with it’s new hardware. In Martyn Casserly’s article, MAC vs PC: Which should you buy?, he talks about each company’s hardware as of late, saying that Apple’s machines “haven’t seen an update in a number of years and now look, well, rather dull”.

Casserly goes on to say, “Microsoft has developed the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book both of which are hugely desirable creations”.

Apple has been living in the past and has allowed companies such as Microsoft to get ahead in areas that were once a staple in their company.

Microsoft’s User Friendliness

Microsoft’s ability to understand the user is what set it apart from every other computer company out there. Microsoft’s GUI(Graphical User Interface) was the first to be simple enough for the everyday person to use. Microsoft makes it easier for its users to have access to everything they need.

Microsoft’s “Cortana is easily accessible from Windows 10 taskbar and is available on iPhone & Android too. However, Siri is only available on iPhone & iPad, not even Mac OS X”.

Microsoft has ingrained Cortana in every facet of its devices while Apple has only made Siri accessible on a few of it’s products.

In the article titled, 9 Things Microsoft Does Better Than Apple, Kyle Russell says,”Windows Phone’s integrated People app integrates updates from Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn so you don’t have to check more than one app”.

An aspect that is usually ignored when making computers is if it is backwards compatible. Backwards compatibility is when an old program can run on the latest version of a piece of software. Thomas Warfield talks about in this article, 4 Reasons Why Microsoft is Better for Developers than Apple, how Window’s applications made 20 years ago could be run on the newest version of Window’s while on a Mac an application from last year might not be able to run on the latest iOS.

In business, the buyer is the first priority and it looks like Microsoft, not Apple, has remembered that.

Though it might seem clear that Microsoft has had a larger impact on the tech world than Apple, there are still some arguments against Microsoft. Because of Windows’ popularity it has seen its fair share of viruses which has deterred people from using it. What people don’t realize is that Mac OS isn’t exactly more secure than Windows people just create less viruses for it because it is less popular.

In James Wright’s article, Microsoft Vs. Apple Computers, he states that “one security expert declared that Windows 7 was more secure than Mac OS X”.

And the fact that Windows is constantly being updating while Mac OS X is staying relatively the same should erase all skepticism about the software.

Microsoft and Apple have existed for essentially the same amount of time but have had two different impacts on the tech world. Microsoft has had a larger impact on the technology world than Apple through its ability to produce better software, constantly adapt and upgrade with the market, and being more focused on the user.
