Robbie Martin invited Matt and I onto Media Roots to talk about our new book National Security Cinema. We discussed a lot of the core material — the scripts changes and political censorship enforced by the Pentagon and CIA — we spent much of this discussion looking at the industry as a whole and the dynamics that allow the government to operate in this way. The conversation also looked at some of the examples of films that broke the mould, including those by Oliver Stone and Paul Verhoeven, and the often unusual circumstances that enabled their production. Robbie edited this interview together with clips of him reading passages from National Security Cinema, which not only provides you with a preview of the book but also makes for a very pleasant listening experience. This interview is highly recommended.
