On November 4, 2019 Nextlix will release “The Devil Next Door“ a five-part documentary series on Nazi Death Camp Guard John Demjanjuk, who’d been living the American Dream for thirty years as a Cleveland auto-worker, before being tried in the United States, Israel and Germany.
As an expert on the case, I appear throughout the series.
“The Devil Next Door” raises many questions about we can and can’t know about the crimes committed during the Holocaust and what we’ve come to learn about the crimes of the Nazis and their collaborators since the end of World War Two, some 75 years ago.
What we now know and don’t know as a result of Demjanjuk’s many trials is also the subject of my just-published,
Ivan of the Extermination Camp: How the Trials and Denials of Nazi Collaborator John Demjanjuk have Added to Our Understanding of the Holocaust.”
My 1990 account of the Israeli trial, “The Trial of Ivan the Terrible: State of Israel vs. John Demjanjuk” serves as the basis for this account, which has been revised, rewritten and updated to include Demjanjuk’s to cover the reversal of Demjanjuk’s Israeli conviction, his return to the United States and his subsequent re-trial in the United States, his deportation to Germany and landmark precedent-setting trial in Germany, in which he was convicted of being accessory to the murder of 29,000 Jewish men, women and children at the Sobibor Extermination Camp and his death in Germany in 2012.
If watching the series whets your appetite for a more complete account, or you are hungering for greater Holocaust knowledge, or want to read the most amazing true crime and legal drama of our time, please order a copy at Amazon. The Ebook is on sale now. A paperback will be available in a few days.
