That’s Just The Way It Is

Standing Up For Something When The World Says Otherwise

One thing that really amazes me about this world is how many times I've heard people say “That’s just the way it is.” or “That’s just the way things are” when talking about a situation that they perceive as wrong, unjust or immoral, but have become social norms.

As a society I believe we each have a responsibility towards it. As Kennedy said “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” but in the 53 years since this was spoken, the message doesn;t seem to have got through.

When I started building Strength Restored it was because I saw an issue with our society, and I wanted to change that. I didn’t sit back and accept it. I couldn't sit back and accept it.

I think sometimes people see an issue, and see how big it is and perceive that as a reason not to tackle it. They are looking for some great hero to come out of the woodwork and make that difference. They look at people like Martin Luthor King, Ghandi, Mandela. People believe that this is the way it is done. But I would be highly surprised if those three thought it that way. And of course it wasn’t that way at all, they all had groups behind them. But do we really need a leader to enable us to stand up for something we believe is right?

One of the biggest issues we have in the fight against bullying is the bystander. The person who is fully aware of what is going on, diagrees with it, but stand by and lets it happen. I wonder whether actually this is not just am issue with bullying, What if we all stood up and made our voices heard about all the issues we felt were wrong. Demanded there be a difference made. Became a part of that difference. I believe if this were to happen we would see drastic social change for the better.
