I quite enjoyed this article despite not really agreeing with any of the arguments within. The central metaphor is amusing and while failing as a sophisticated analogy does give a good insight in the mindset of the author which, I’m not going to lie, comes across as a little immature.

It’s fine to try and tie your article together with a conceit but you’ve got to try and make the argument in a traditional sense as well, you let your school analogy do all the heavy lifting and it doesn’t really stand up to closer examination or contain much deeper meaning than simply saying I don’t feel very cool at the moment.

This article is ostensibly about Owen Jones, why not try analyzing his work and presenting evidence for your argument? Instead you briefly mention some articles he’s written and then skip to your (unsubstantiated) opinion. I’ve read those articles and while they may contain some harsh truths they’re not abusive, that you would then go on to quote some actual abuse before waving it off indicates a slanted perspective.

Oh yeah and that’s not what gaslighting is.
