Music is the Key

Most of the time, when you’re trying to put into words the status of your life at any given moment, song lyrics say everything that you can’t. It’s hard to find words to fit. That’s why music is so beloved. Why it speaks to us. Why we can find that one song and listen to it over and over again, never getting tired of it.

I’m not talking about bubble gum pop music. I’m talking about songs that touch your soul. Songs that were written with meaning and heart. When I’m having a bad day, I pull up some old favorites and just lose myself. In my head, I’m like a churchgoer praising “Amen” after every lyric. When a song writer can touch you like that, they’ve made something beautiful.

When life is going great, listen to music to make those memories. Those songs will be your soundtrack later in life. You’ll drive down the road and hear a song you haven’t heard in 25 years and all of a sudden, you’re 21 again, having the time of your life. It’s a bittersweet feeling but one that should bring a smile to your face.

When you’re going through hard times, listen to music. Those lyrics are like Psalms for your soul. They’ll get you through just like a hug from a loved one. They’ll hold you together until you can do it on your own.

The songs and lyrics that speak to you don’t even have to pertain to you. They can just be great words put together in a way that connects with you.

Always make music a part of your life. It will be there when no one else is.

Some lyrics that touch me:

Chasing Cars: “If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?”

A Change is Gonna Come: “It’s been too hard living but I’m afraid to die
Cause I don’t know what’s up there beyond the sky”

Cry No More: “Every time, I try my best, it seems I’m doing wrong. Oh yeah
When I think about, what I’ve done to me, I had to make a change…”

How to Save a Life “Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness but I’d have stayed up with you all night, had I known how to save a life”

Lifetime “I was reborn when I was broken, I wouldn’t believe, no. I wouldn’t believe..”

16th Avenue “Some are born to money and never have to say survive while others swing a 9lb hammer, just to stay alive..”

Sing it Out “Sing it out, sing it out, take what’s left of me and make it a melody..”

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
