Why Silicon Valley is all wrong about Apple’s AirPods

I have much less enthusiasm for these earbuds because the so called normal folks will lose them, (or just one of them,) and not want to buy more. Plus, although they actually kind of look like a Pop Art rendition of someone having previously climaxed in your ear canal, they are not sexy. They will still look just as douchey as any other ear buds, and they are more akin to the design over utility paradigm that Apple espouses that leads to unchangeable batteries and software that can sometimes only be fixed by a complete reload of the OS. They have always been a “we decided for you what you want” company, and this is another example of that. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they make us change to adopt what they want until we forget what we wanted in the first place, and sometimes they get it wrong but push it anyway until it quietly dies and is never mentioned again. I personally hope that these earbuds are the latter, because they are not appealing to me as either a design artifact, or a convenient product.
