Excellent slice of sobering reality. What if, God Forbid, there’s nothing special about the UK population when it comes to jobs and the economy. I’ve seen the same situation in the Valleys in Wales, whole communities that had a center and a regular employer. When the mines went, there was nothing obvious to take its place and no employer who rushed in, even though there was clearly a pool of people not frightened of a hard day’s work in difficult conditions.
Nissan is in place in the UK because Government intervened to make it happen, it’s not obvious that this Government would take similar actions or even that such actions would be successful.
We were extremely well placed. We need to be fully aware of what we are risking here.
