America Decides to Annex Hawaii Again

Hawaii officially became the fiftieth state on August 21st, 1959; however, the Hawaiian Islands had been annexed by the U.S. in 1898.

In the 1800s, to maintain a military presence in the Pacific and to keep the British and French from setting up camp on the Islands, The United States formed business alliances with Hawaiian officials and tradespeople, which led to the annexation.
