I have always thrived in a technical job that benefitted from the skill and wisdom of both genders. A quick and easy (and correct?) way to overcome one’s gender prejudice is to “check one’s prejudice”, and be self-critical. When males discourage females from doing engineering they are arguably protecting privileges, like their own jobs (selfishly) or their male “monoculture” (lazily). When such discouragement begs the support of scientific literature there is post-hoc self-justification: in any case most of this literature is dominated by writers of a privileged gender. Think: if women had the privilege of dominating today’s high-tech engineering, they could easily have appealed to sexist arguments like greater patience or nimble fingers!
