I’m a sucker for a good strategy game, but I’m always reluctant to jump in and play due to the time it takes to learn and understand a new game and the risk of it sucking. No one wants to waste their time learning something that’s not worth it. Settlers of Catan is worth it, let me show you why.

Most humans are wired to need community and connection to varying degrees. What’s bad ass about this game is it sets the stage for connection, regardless of where you fall on the spectrum. If you prefer smaller groups, the original game allows for 2–4 players. There’s an extension available that lets you play 4–6. Any more than that and it’s a crowd and the chance for genuine, deeper connection is diminished.
