Howdy Michael. I appreciate the response and I agree with a lot of the thinking. The thing is, you’re not a Mac user, by your admission. But I am. And so are legions of others. Maybe it’s the rarefied air I breathe but walk into any cafe in SF, and you’ll see nothing but Macbooks. Oh and take a stroll through Facebook’s engineering department. I’m sure it’s a shining sea of silver. Ironic.
AltSpace is venture-funded and has lots of money to spend on development. DeepStream can pass on high costs to enterprise customers. They can also control the entire deployment, including the hardware configuration. So they’re in fine shape. Independent developers, on the other hand, are shit out of luck unless they make a game because that’s their only hope to monetize. Forget creating an education title or just a piece of fun content; the price of entry is too high. So for all intents and purposes it’s a game developers’ world.
