To this effect, I sometimes have teams working on a new product talk through really terrible (on purpose) iterations of features/UX (think Opposite Day) in order to create some fun space and capture their shared values about what’s actually important to them by laughing through what they think would be shitty.

Yes! This is so powerful. I wrote something like this up that I called the Rule of Three.

One idea is a bad idea. Two ideas is an argument. Three ideas is a brainstorm. Putting bad ideas out there breaks the ice and then suddenly everyone is contributing and riffing.
