I mean, they have similar things about them like a step tracker and other things that I would use most days like a pedometer so I’d assume it would make sense they’d have them pretty similar but I would love a Garmin Forerunner 945 review on if they’re the same or different in some way or something that I may not know just because I haven’t had one before so I would love a review on that as well.

Focused on improving its devices in more ways than one, Garmin recently unveiled its Forerunner 945 in India along with a slew of new features. Let’s discuss some key specifications of both watches side by side and understand what’s new about them.

Garmin Forerunner 945 has accompanied me through my daily life (exercise) for 6 months. After continuous use, it is time to draw another conclusion.

I wear my watch 24 hours a day, and I take it off and fasten it to the handlebar when I ride. The first is task data. So far, in total:

121 activities recorded (53 x running, 12 x hiking, 57 x cycling)
3,984 kilometers recorded
Record 192 hours
Also, as mentioned earlier, I always wear the watch on my arm as a fitness tracker.

Software
Although some software updates have been released since the release of the watch, the basic functions have remained almost unchanged. In addition to ClimbPro (available since its release), only PacePro was submitted as a very important feature. So far, all installed updates have been no problem, just like Forerunner 935.

Gone are the days of Fenix 3, when you had to hope that you would not have to perform a reset operation after each update.

Sometimes the only anomaly that bothers me is the time until the GPS is repaired. At the beginning of an activity (always starting from the same starting point), it is not uncommon for the watch to take up to 1 or 2 minutes to find the GPS location. Garmin has provided some GPS updates in this area, but it hasn’t actually been improved.

Hardware
Since Forerunner 945 shares most of the software and the same shell with the predecessor of Forerunner 935, there is no big surprise at this point. Even after half a year, everything is still working, you really need to look for scratches. I am not particularly careful with watches.

Unfortunately, only a few weeks later, the “down” button lost its pressure point. The typical tactile and auditory “click” sounds can no longer be heard. There are already some posts related to this in the Garmin forums. This seems to be a production error, in which case Garmin will simply replace the watch. However, the function is not affected by this, so I did not change the watch.

However, a bigger problem with the Forerunner 935 predecessor was the cracks in the glass cover of the HR sensor. For me, these watches appeared for the first time a year later. For the four exchanged watches I received as part of the guarantee, it depends on a few months. Garmin seems to use an improved glass cover on the Forerunner 945. You may have learned something from your mistakes. So I can’t see any cracks yet, I hope it can stay on.

Garmin Forerunner 945 in testing

Forerunner 945 is a GPS watch suitable for ambitious runners and triathletes. We revealed what can and cannot be done with a multi-sport watch.

Garmin Forerunner 935 vs 945
Garmin Forerunner 945

So far, Garmin Forerunner 935 has been my favorite GPS sports watch. What I like and dislike about her is what I described in this detailed review two years ago. So far, I have been full of confidence in the 935, but now its successor Garmin Forerunner 945 has been put on the market, the question is: will it be better? What else can she do? And does it even eliminate the only real flaw (inaccurate optical heart rate measurement)? Two years is the world of technological products. Correspondingly, the new model has many new features and minor changes.

Familiar design, new features

But these changes are not visible. At first glance, FR 945 looks very similar to FR 935. The design, size and weight (weight 50 grams) remain unchanged. A fairly compact, fiber-reinforced polymer shell and a soft, stretchable silicone wristband can continue to sit on a slender wrist without shaking or squeezing. This time, Garmin also relied on real buttons and eliminated touch controls. Only the buttons are a little dark now, and are basically the only details you can recognize the new version.

The functional changes are more obvious. FR 945 has many features of other Garmin models, such as Fenix 5X Plus, and many brand new features. Here is a brief overview: Garmin Forerunner 945 can now save and play music via Bluetooth.

It has a map display with navigation and route selection functions. In addition, thanks to the NFC chip and Garmin Pay, you can pay without cash (although any bank in Germany rarely supports this payment method, but you can use a preferential electronic credit card such as VIMPay). Another new feature is the safety feature, which, like Apple Watch 4, can detect falls/accidents and send coordinates to emergency contacts.

Garmin Forerunner 935 vs 945

For ambitious endurance athletes, whether they are runners, cyclists or triathletes, the functions of the watch can be used to analyze training and draw conclusions about performance, which is of course more interesting. Even the old Garmin Forerunner 935 is really convincing and can be said to be a coach on the wrist.

The new feature of the 945 is a function called “training load focus”. Displaying the areas of your training in the last four weeks should help you better control the intensity of your training. The new light pulse sensor at the bottom of the housing records the heart rate once a second, and now it can also measure oxygen saturation, thereby including the adaptation to altitude and calories in the calculation of training and exercise status.

Now, the new optical heart rate sensor at the bottom of the housing also has a pulse oximeter to measure the oxygen saturation in the blood.
Stress tracking and body battery functions are also designed to provide insight into physical performance. You must imagine that in the morning after going to bed, you will wake up in a fully charged body and lose energy throughout the day. The calculation includes heart rate variability (here we explain what the exact heart rate variability (HRV) is), stress level, sleep quality and activity. Speaking of activities: Of course, Garmin Forerunner 945 can also be used as an activity tracker, which can monitor your entire movement and even your sleep.

Sony’s new satellite sensor is also used in the latest watch models of Suunto and Polar. In addition to the US GPS and Russian GLONASSS navigation satellites, it also supports the European Galileo system. You can choose which satellites the watch should use: GPS only, GPS and GLONASS or GPS and Galileo.

Accurate GPS, long battery life

Like Garmin, they are very comfortable to wear and operate. The coupling and synchronization of the unit and the smartphone are working properly. Usually, Garmin’s Connect application works perfectly. This watch can be used very well as an activity tracker-it can count steps, monitor sleep and detect exercise sequence. For example, even if you have not started any activities, cycling and walking will be displayed in the Connect app. Stress tracking and body battery functions are of no practical use to me, because I know that I will feel tired after a hard day. However, in order to detect permanent overloads, these functions can be very useful.

Excellent map display, useful route creation

Thanks to the complete map display, for example, the location of the fork can be clearly known, so it is easier to run the trajectory.
Speaking of maps and navigation, for me, this is one of the most important innovations in multi-sport watches. I am often guided by the worm navigation of some running watches. By storing the map on the watch, you can easily track the trajectory because the path around you is visible and makes positioning easier. Example: You are approaching a fork on the road, and the path separates at an acute angle. Only worm navigation can go the wrong way. However, if the route is displayed on the map, it is clear where it is going. For me, who likes to take small paths to explore new areas, the map function is great. A nice trick of the Garmin Forerunner 945 is the routing function, which can automatically create a route without first loading the track on the watch. The round-trip mode is very practical: you can specify how many kilometers you want to travel, the clock will calculate some suggested routes, and then you can drive or drive one from them. all is well.

Inaccurate heart rate measurement, smart training analysis

Unfortunately, the optical heart rate measurement of the Garmin Forerunner 945 is not perfect. I have written for many years in all tests: the optical heart rate measurement on the wrist does not work reliably while running. No matter which manufacturer, no matter which model: there will always be inexplicable dropouts. Unfortunately, FR 945 has not changed. Although heart rhythm can be reliably measured in daily life, it often has completely unrealistic value during exercise. For example, according to Garmin, in a 10-kilometer race, I beat 120 to 150 times in the first 5 kilometers, and suddenly beat more than 180 times in the next 5 kilometers. Since the watch automatically hangs up after a short time and displays a realistic value, other reasons (loose bracelets, thick hair, dark skin color) no longer apply.

The evaluation in the Garmin Connect app shows that the distance measurement using Garmin Forerunner 945 is very reliable (here it happens to be 10.00 km in a 10 km race), and the value determined by the pulse measurement using the optical heart rate sensor is too high It is low at the beginning (red graphic).

On the one hand, such a deficiency will be annoying when running. On the other hand, if you want to run according to your pulse, on the other hand, it will affect the determination of the above functions for analyzing training and determining performance. For example, in the first two weeks when I used the Garmin Forerunner 945 on the road, the VO2max calculated by the watch dropped from 65 to 60, simply because the pulse measurement was often incorrect. If you want to use a very successful training analysis and control method, you must use a chest strap to get a reliable and accurate heart rate value. The heart rate belt can be easily connected to Garmin via Bluetooth. Similarly, other devices (such as power measurement systems, foot sensors) can also be coupled via Bluetooth and ANT+.

Regarding the two new functions of altitude and heat adaptation, unfortunately, I can’t say more. During the test, I was on the mountain and the watch realized that I was at a high place, but the output value did not make any sense to me. I will continue to test these features and impress me in the near future.
Garmin Forerunner 945 is like a coach on the wrist, which can analyze and control training. Here, you can see the evaluation of performance prediction, altitude adaptation, load focus and body battery.

Summary of Garmin Pioneer 945

Basically, my conclusion on the 945 is the same as that on the 935: it is the best multisport watch on the market. According to your point of view, many functions of Garmin Forerunner 945 can be ignored. This is a head that anyone hardly needs in daily life (sports). Basically, I only really need the first few features. I think the 945 is good because it provides features that are important to me (longer battery life, accurate GPS, lampshade, barometric altimeter, working software). In addition, there are very good navigation functions, including map display. The only flaw is, and is still inaccurate in my eyes, the optical heart rate measurement, which has a significant impact on the information value of training and performance analysis. If you really want to use these functions, you should use a heart rate belt.

Conclusion
Pioneer 945 continued to perform his duties six months later. Like Forerunner 935, the software is outdated and the troubles of the past seem to have been overcome.

Although the man served 24 hours a day, the exterior of it did not age, and the interior was as stable as the first day. A conclusion is taken for granted, but in terms of Garmin’s past software stability, it is worth mentioning.
